Since we claim to be a church of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we ought to have certain distinguishing characteristics. Here are a few of the commitments we have that we hope you will find easy to recognize in our gatherings.
We are committed to the Authority of the Scriptures. Since the Bible is the only reliable, inerrant, and infallible source of truth provided by God, it is the sole source for our teaching and preaching. You should bring your Bible with you when you visit us.
We are Committed to the Importance of the Local Church. God intends individual believers to identify and function with other believers in a local church. It is through a local body of believers that an individual believer receives equipping for service, partakes of the Lord's table and baptism, and is held accountable. Every believer, therefore, ought to be associated with and actively pursuing service for Christ through the local church.
We are Committed to a Proper Recognition and Proclamation of God's Sovereign and Gracious Work to Save Sinners. The salvation of sinners is a work which God accomplishes from start to finish. A twisted gospel has gained favor in our day that affirms that man is naturally willing and able to come to Christ. The Bible knows nothing of this kind of gospel. Yes, every sinner is responsible to respond to the gospel call to come to Christ for salvation from sin, but the Bible says that he is naturally unable and unwilling to do so. A sinner is made willing and able to come to Christ only as a result of the gracious willing and working of God. So, you can expect to hear much exaltation of God and no exaltation of man in the matter of salvation.
We are Committed to Proper Worship of God. The Bible offers the only reliable guidance regarding the kind of worship that is pleasing and acceptable to God. That is why when we assemble for worship you will find us doing the following: reading God's word; singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, praying, and preaching God's word. Since God is the object of attention and honor during worship, it should come to no surprise that activities aimed to entertain men are entirely out of place. Worship of the Creator and Redeemer is an occasion for joy and serious reflection. You can expect an atmosphere here which lends itself to that.
We are Committed to Practical Holiness. Christianity is more than knowing and talking about the truth. The faith that saves a sinner is a living, active, and working faith. Christians ought to live their lives in a manner consistent with what they say they believe.
We are Committed to Loving Fellowship. A characteristic of true Christians is that they genuinely and fervently love other Christians. This love is shown by such things as acts of kindness, hospitality, admonition, instruction, and even gentle rebukes to one another. Our desire is that our fellowship together would increasingly resemble "heaven on earth".
